Daniel Coughlan

Daniel has been involved in endurance sports, coaching and development for over 10yrs. It didn’t go well – but it was the start of something special!
Daniel has taken on dozens of long-distance swimming, running and cycling events, and even thrown in a 24hr rowing marathon with Sams’s brother! Some of Daniel’s highlights include 3 x Ironman Wales finishes, 10hr sea swim in Lanzarote, 5hr swim between Cabrera Island and Mallorca and becoming only the 43rd person to complete the Enduroman Arch to Arc, regarded as the hardest triathlon in the world.

Sam has a longstanding pedigree in endurance, originating from the competitive nature of having two older brothers & a fascination to see how far he can push himself, whether that be running a marathon, cycling to Paris or climbing mountains!. His wealth of experience on the road is second to none, including single day sportive, multi-day treks, marathons, multi-sport endurance, adventure racing or mountain treks…he done them all, got a box full of silverware to prove it and plenty of stories to tell.
Sam is always up for a challenge and over many years has utilised this for good, supporting many local & national charities raising many thousands of pounds.
He is responsible for all things operational and numbers based at OnVenture.
Meet the team | Q&A
Daniel

Finishing the hardest triathlon in the world, the Enduroman Arch to Arc.
What is your favorite endurance event?
“Has to be Ironman Wales, tough course but stunning scenery and amazing support.”
What is your favorite ride?
“When training for my first Ironman, I did my 50k commute from Ipswich in Suffolk to Clacton-on-Sea in Essex on my bike. It was hard work, but a great cycle, a route I will always remember and cherish.”
What is your favorite run?
“When I was training for the Enduroman, I took part in a weeks training camp in Lanzarote. One evening, we started a 6hr run at middnight. Yes, it was dark so I didnt see much, but under the moon light, it was one of the memorable, challenging and enjoyable runs I have ever done.”
What is the best advice you have been given?
“Never do something for the first time on race day.
(like change your chain set – which I did!)”
What is your go to pre-ride/run fuel?
“This is a big area where me and Sam differ. For me, its standard, three weetabix with hot water, bagel with peanut butter and jam.”
Why did you start OnVenture?
“As the saying goes, do something you love and will never work a day in your life. Training for endurance events has been a big part of my life the past 10yrs with long and hard miles on the road and in the water. At OnVenture, I want to take all those experiences and deliver truly memorable weekend breaks in what I beleive is the untapped resource for Suffolk”
What are Sam’s streghths?
“Sam doesn’t overthink things, always very calm and relaxed – but focused. He is great at motivating others, even complete strangers out on casual run and rides or big events. An excellent runner and cyclist and can make a good vegan sauage roll.”
Sam

Crossing the finish line at Ironman Wales, Tenby, in an incredible debut performance.
What is your favorite endurance event?
“Much like Dan, it has to be Ironman Wales, the course is brutal & emotional at times, with choppy seas, rolling roads & a seriously tough marathon, but the people of Tenby & Pembrokeshire turn out and put on a show of support like nothing I have ever felt or seen & it absolutely gives you an extra burst of energy pushing you towards finish line.”
What is your favorite ride?
“I completed the Snowman Triathlon and the 70k ride up, down & around Snowdonia was testing and breathe-taking in equal measure…on the flip side of this, on the run leg as I was ascending a foggy Moel Siabod, I crashed and was refuelled by a kind walker on the mountain with a pork pie, caramel wafer & glug of orange squash.”
What is your favorite run?
“The Orwell coastal path taking you along the shores of the Orwell to Felixstowe before heading inland and though lovely Suffolk countryside back to Ipswich.”
What is the best advice you have been given?
“remember to vas up”
What is your go to pre-ride/run fuel?
“Porridge & a bacon roll…porridge keeps your carbs up and the bacon ups your salt levels to fend off cramp.”
Why did you start OnVenture?
“To show off Suffolk in the best light we can and putting to good use my inability to sit still coupled with my vast wealth of cycling/endurance/adventure experience.”
What are Daniel’s streghths?
“Focussed and funny, with an endless library of both useless & useful knowledge and a helluva drive to succeed in any challenge put in front of him.”
